Stanley Consultants is hiring for a Design Manager to be based on site with our U.S. Air Force client at Tyndall AFB. This position will be responsible for managing the planning and design of Military Construction (MILCON) and Facility Sustainment, Restoration and Modernization (FSRM) projects on behalf of the client, using knowledge, processes and expertise to execute a project or group of projects conceptualized by a preliminary requirement or work order to its successful conclusion. You will coordinate closely with the project management staff within the PMO, as well as stakeholders (both internal and external to the U.S. Air Force) as required.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate proficiency in successfully performing design, construction, and delivery on large design and construction programs. The position requires a person with strong leadership and communications skills, the ability to influence others to obtain successful results, demonstrated organizational and political acumen, and the skill to coordinate a diverse team of technical experts under the supervision and direction of the PMO Director.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Plan, organize, communicate and coordinate project planning and design engagements
  • Coordinate, facilitate and influence project managers, the design/construction manager/agent and contractors on project designs, design reviews, design charrettes and comprehensive project design status including siting, approvals, permitting, programming, requirements development, design, construction, and transfer/acceptance
  • Participate in facility assessments and meet with user groups/stakeholders to determine facility requirements
  • Coordinate with the U.S. Air Force client, end-users and design consultants and contractors
  • Coordinate project design and review completeness of submittals including O&M manuals
  • Coordinate Architectural/Engineering (A/E) services through reach back to Stanley Consultants technical subject matter experts and sub-consultancy services as required
  • Provide technical advice to U.S. Air Force COR and others as required on engineering change proposals, unfunded requirements, construction management QA services, and engineering during construction (EDC)
  • Drive project design issues through to resolution. Drive process improvement in the design development and delivery process
  • Concurrently manage design activities of varying levels of completion simultaneously on multiple projects
  • Ensure that issues are properly documented, managed, and/or resolved
  • Develop design review plan(s), RFI management plan, and coordinate on implementation of a design review/RFI management IT system
  • Be a team player and able to support the delivery of multiple projects to performance, cost and schedule parameters

We are looking for an experienced Design Management Lead with demonstrable experience in facility design and construction for the Department of Defense, with well-developed professional skills and a proven track record of leadership and management. Your ability to work collaboratively with a team of people from across multiple organizations and the company will be crucial for success. You will be busy, challenged and will feel rewarded from day one.

Essential:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture from an ABET accredited university
  • Registered Professional Engineer or Architect
  • Strong experience (15+ years) in program and project management of Department of Defense (DoD) Military Construction (MILCON), or comparable programs/projects
  • Demonstrated the ability to complete programs and projects on schedule and within budget
  • Strong focus on Health and Safety
  • Ability to manage a wide array of activities, people, projects and issues
  • Demonstrated possession of excellent organizational and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to working a diverse and multidiscipline team
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and direct the efforts of subordinate staff members
  • Evidence of working collaboratively with clients and suppliers to deliver positive results
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, a Secret security clearance

Desired (one or more of the following):

  • Registered Professional Engineer or Architect in Florida (or ability to obtain registration via reciprocity)
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
